M&S Systems - M&S Systems goes retro with the new DMC3-4 system, the intercom that updates your current system

CARLSBAD,CA - August 30, 2004 - Do you want an intercom that is attractively styled and offers the latest technology in your home? But are you stuck with one of the older intercom systems straight out of the 70's? Well, M&S Systems has come to the rescue. The new DMC3-4 retrofit music/communication system is designed to replace most 3 and 4 wire intercom system, without running new wires or having to repair drywall.

M&S Systems – the leading designer and manufacturer of built-in home amenities – is introducing the next generation of retrofitable home intercom systems: the DMC3-4. The DMC3-4 system is easy to install and uses existing home wiring.

"There are a lot of older intercom systems installed in homes today that are unattractive and may not even work. Homeowners still want to communicate and have music available throughout their homes. The DMC3-4 system was designed to provide in home communications and audio distribution along with updated styling," said Gary Baker, M&S Systems' Director of Sales and Marketing. "But the strength of the DMC3-4 product is that it provides all this in existing homes."

Better inside and out

"The new DMC3-4 offers every feature that the existing intercom system provided - and a lot more besides. Yes, the DMC3-4 intercom is a stylish addition to any home. But this change is more than appearance. It's what's inside the intercom that will excite homeowners, dealers and installers," said Baker.

The DMC3-4 has an upgrade path to make it a stereo distributed audio system. Simply by adding an MC960PA power amplifier, your intercom can become a stereo music source, delivering stereo quality music from the radio or CD player to any room in the home. This feature may require running wire in homes that are not already wired for stereo music.

Benefits to Dealers & Installers

The DMC3-4 also offers distinct advantages to dealers and installers. For example, the DMC3-4 is designed to provide you with a retrofit product that will run on existing 3 and 4 conductor flat wire applications. This includes existing M&S System and NuTone intercom installations.

More than an intercom company

"The DMC3-4 is not your typical home intercom system. But then M&S Systems is not your typical intercom company. Strictly speaking, we're not just an intercom company – and anybody who thinks of M&S solely in terms of intercoms has missed all the exciting changes in our business. At M&S, we think of ourselves as the industry leader in the design and manufacture of built-in, electronic home amenities," Baker points out.

"Our product line includes the best home intercom systems on the market, of course. But we also offer a broad range of other products – from our built-in AirVac systems to structured wiring and home entertainment functionality. And we continue to introduce exciting home innovations such as our WaveGuide speakers, the MC2000 Digital Audio Network, the DMC1 intercom and now our DMC3-4 retrofit intercom. For builders, dealers and installers, this means the convenience of one- stop shopping," Baker said.

'whole house audio'

He also noted "M&S now offers the MC2000 system, which delivers a digital whole-house audio network complete with MP3 playback capability, music management databases and intercom functionality. Our systems have progressed from a single master unit controlling music throughout the home to individual room stations having the capability to control their own music sources and expanded features."

This expandable integrated 4-zone 6-source digital audio distribution system offers music as well as home communication functions from each zone and the front door. This new addition to the M&S line provides an affordable solution and delivers incredible listening power at 30 watts a channel.

The XDM4600KIT consists of four zones and six sources that connect to a single router box. Each zone contains a class-D amplifier and other circuitry to drive one pair of 8-ohm speakers as well as a local source. The system is optimized at the factory to work with our award winning WaveGuide speakers.

An infrared repeater built into the system allows the audio source equipment to be controlled from the zones with a universal remote. The router box has six analog audio inputs for sourcing music to the system, and communication between the router box and the zones is digital.

"This powerful system is packed into a sleek designed two-gang keypad, that delivers the audio elegance your home deserves. M&S Systems connects with new DMC1, 'the intercom with a difference'

DALLAS, Texas, Jan. 19, 2004 – Say "high tech" and most people think of computers, telecommunication systems, personal electronics, automobiles, even a lot of today's toys.

Let's add one more word to that list: intercoms.

Intercoms?

Yes, intercoms. The new generation of M&S Systems home intercom systems is the dawn of a whole new era of increasingly sophisticated intercom technology – a whole home music communication system capable of delivering quality sound – voice or music – to anywhere in the home.

That's right: in the home. Because homes are a primary market for intercom systems. This is why M&S Systems – the leading designer and manufacturer of built-in home amenities – is introducing the next generation of home intercom systems: the DMC1.

"Why would we replace our flagship intercom, the MC602? Because this new model has everything homebuilders, dealers, installers and their customers – the homeowners – want in an intercom," said Gary Baker, M&S Systems' director of sales and marketing.

"Our new DMC1 intercom is a better fit for today's homes. It's smaller, with a more modern, elegant look to fit today's decor – and, of course, superb sound," Baker added.

The M&S Systems' DMC1 master intercom is a full 30 percent smaller than the previous model – and the room stations are even smaller. The small size and elegant style combine to make the intercom technology less obtrusive.

Better inside and out

"The new DMC1 offers every feature of the MC602 – and a lot more besides. Yes, the DMC1 intercom is a stylish addition to any home. But this change is more than appearance. It's what's inside the intercom that will excite homebuilders, dealers and installers – not to mention their customers," said Baker.

The DMC1 has an upgrade path to make it a stereo distributed audio system. Simply by adding an MC960PA power amplifier, your intercom can become a stereo music source, delivering stereo quality music from the radio or CD player to any room in the home.

Homeowners will also appreciate the DMC1's privacy feature: Just push one button and you can stop anyone else in the home from interrupting or monitoring a particular room.

Benefits to builders

The DMC1 also offers distinct advantages to homebuilders, dealers and installers. For example, the DMC1 features the updated technology of CAT5 wiring, the ratified standard for unshielded twisted pair wiring. CAT5 wiring improves performance by minimizing electrical interference and is compatible with today's most sophisticated home wiring needs. The DMC1 is designed with the installer in mind using quick wiring connectors to reduce installation time.

It is also easy to retrofit the DMC1 into existing intercom systems, thus making it easier to sell upgrades. And the price point of the DMC1 is reasonable, eliminating the customer's cost objection.

"So tell your customers to forget their preconceptions of intercoms. Now they can get all the advantages of a home intercom system – security, convenience, privacy, music – plus style and crystal-clear sound," said Baker.

More than an intercom company

"The DMC1 is not your typical home intercom system.

And we continue to introduce exciting home innovations such as our WaveGuide speakers, the MC2000 Digital Audio Network and now our DMC1 intercom. 'whole house audio'

He also noted "M&S now offers the MC2000 system, which delivers a digital whole-house audio network complete with MP3 playback capability, music management databases and intercom functionality. M&S Systems' WaveGuide Speakers offer unprecedented technology to in-wall home sound

Dallas, Texas - June 26, 2003 - The sound of music takes a new shape with the release of M&S Systems' WaveGuide? Speakers. The latest built-in home sound technology offers consumers a new and exciting way to fill their home.

"Consumer audio technology is breaking new ground every day, but without an equivalent speaker the technology goes to waste. The WaveGuide? Speakers were designed to work with top digital music sources to offer the best music reproduction in the industry," says Gary Baker, Director of Sales and Marketing for M&S Systems.

WaveGuide? Speakers broke new ground with the design of an asymmetrical pivoting tweeter that offers uniform sound dispersion and extended high-frequency response. Along with a unique baffle design, Kevlar woofer cones, gold-plated terminals and adjustable 3-position switches, WaveGuide? speakers offer the highest level of sound dispersion in the built-in speaker market.

"Many surround sound rooms have audio dead spots because the speaker can't adjust to the size and shape of the room. But with WaveGuide?, every speaker can be customized to the room making sure that there's never a bad seat in the house," Baker adds.

WaveGuide? speakers are offered as both ceiling and in-wall applications. The 6 1/2" WG100W (100-watt) and 8" WG150W (150-watt) offer customers two different powered in-wall options for music reproduction. The WaveGuide? ceiling offering includes a similar setup with the 100-watt 6 1/2" WG100C and the 150-watt 8" WG150C.

"No matter where installed – in-wall or ceiling – WaveGuide? provides sound with the perfect shape," Baker concludes.

M&S Systems celebrates 50 years as industry leader in built-in, electronic home amenities

DALLAS, Texas – Feb. 17, 2003 - Feb. 17 – 1953 was only 50 years ago but it seems like another world . . . .

Dwight D. Eisenhower moved into the White House. Jonas Salk invented the polio vaccine. Saran Wrap, instant iced tea and Kellogg's Sugar Smacks hit grocery store shelves for the first time. Auto mechanics earned $2.00 an hour. A new Ford Custom Victoria two-door hardtop cost less than $2,000 and the gasoline to make it go was 29’ a gallon. And a Coca-Cola cost a nickel.

the beginning

1953 also marked the end of what was officially known as the Korean War. One of the returning veterans was 31-year-old Captain Harold J. (Jim) Lemmon. He had an idea that he thought he could turn into a business, an idea that involved radio: a built-in radio/intercom system for homes. This audio pioneer called the fledgling company he founded on March 16, 1953 Music & Sound – later shortened to M&S.

"The technology of 1953 meant a vacuum tube radio bought from a local distributor and modified to fit into the wall with internal wiring to the speakers and an on/off switch. There were no volume controls. No FM radio. No intercom. Just a built-into-the-wall radio with five room speakers. All this for $89.50 installed," Lemmon remembers.

Two years later he came up with $10,000 – half of it borrowed – to incorporate M&S. Building the business meant traveling the country – up to two months at a time – to train distributors in sales and installation. His success brought competition. In the late 1950s heavy hitters such as General Electric, Progress Lighting and Rittenhouse – companies with national distribution – as well as a host of building product companies entered the market. But Lemmon kept expanding his regional market, building strong bonds with the growing M&S distributor base.

This worked: Competitive pricing and, more important, personal contact and a strong commitment to service gave M&S an edge. The competition began to fade. By the late 70s, more than 20 competitors had been reduced to only 2. Meanwhile, Lemmon continued to add innovations to his built-in package: door chimes and an intercom that worked room-to- room as well as to the front door.

Later the M&S concept would be expanded to encompass FM radio, audiocassettes, music CDs and home theater. "And as long as we were installing in houses under construction, why not a built-in vacuum system? So we added this product line by acquiring a few small vacuum companies and then cherry-picked the best of each acquisition to create the M&S AirVac system," says Lemmon.

The growing success of M&S Systems also brought suitors. In 1982, Lemmon sold his company to Nortek but stayed as president until 1987.

a classic success story

"M&S is a classic American success story. Someone with just an idea takes $10,000 in capitalization and, with hard work, turns it into a multimillion-dollar business. We never paid dividends. The money was always reinvested in the company. And if a customer was unhappy for whatever reason, we found a way to make it right – promptly – a tradition that's still honored at M&S," Lemmon smiles with satisfaction.

Today that tradition – and the company Jim Lemmon founded – is celebrating a half century as the industry leader in built-in, electronic home amenities. To commemorate this remarkable milestone, M&S will offer a number of special promotions throughout the year.

still pioneering

M&S Systems, still headquartered in Dallas, Texas – is now owned by Chamberlain Industries. And M&S is still renowned for applying technology, style and value to its diverse line of products that help enrich the enjoyment of the home, including analog and digital musical communication systems, home theater surround sound systems, structured wiring and central vacuum systems. M&S musical systems have come a long way - from vacuum tube radios to digital whole-house audio networks complete with MP3 capability, music storage databases, and intercom functionality. Systems have progressed from a single master unit controlling music throughout the home to individual room stations having the capability to control their own music sources and expanded features.

"Today people want their homes equipped with the built-in technologies to make their home lives as convenient and enjoyable as possible," says Tyler Dawson, general manager of M&S. "That's where M&S Systems comes in. We have the technology and experience to meet this demand – with everything from built-in vacuum systems to home intercoms, from home entertainment to structured wiring."

All this has made M&S Systems a pioneer in built-in electrical home amenity products. But Dawson views the company's 50th anniversary as less of a milestone and more of a springboard to the future.

"Looking back with pride at our history is good – and well-deserved," says Dawson. "But we prefer to think of this as a time to recommit ourselves to our distributors, to our customers and to the next 50 years. We promise them our continued commitment to service and to the innovative application of built-in electronic home amenities. Whatever you want from your home – efficiency, security or entertainment – M&S will remain your preeminent source of built-in satisfaction."

M&S Systems Brings Sense to Home Wiring - and Added Profits to Contractors

DALLAS – September 7, 2001 – Take a look at most homes built in the first half of the 20th century. The first thing you'll notice is the lack of electrical outlets: one per room – two at the most. The result: most older homes were a hodgepodge of plug-in and extension cords.

There's a 21st century equivalent: today's homes overrun with wires and cables from internet connections, phones, fax, home theater, music and intercom systems. The result: an even more complex hodgepodge of cables and wires that makes adding or changing anything electronic a nightmare.

There is a better way: structured wiring from M&S Systems. "A hundred years ago electricity revolutionized the way people lived. Today there's a new consumer electronics revolution. It's called structured wiring. What makes it so important? You – and the way you live," says Lorelei Connon, product manager for M&S Systems.

structured wiring – the great simplifier

"Imagine one access point for everything except electricity. One central juncture for all your data and entertainment needs - phone, cable, music and Internet access. Everything from the outside connects to the structured wiring box. And the box distributes it all through your pre-wired home. It's as simple as that," she adds.

Structured wiring is safe, affordable, expandable, easy to install and comes with a two-year warranty. The box flush mounts between 16"-center studs – or wall mounts for retrofits. The box also locks for added security.

"Structured wiring is increasingly in demand as more and more families want the convenience of wired homes. So think of M&S structured wiring as your home's own personal organizer for consumer electronics," Connon points out.

For more than 40 years M&S Systems has been the industry leader in designing and manufacturing the finest home systems for analog and digital communications, music and home theater.
